A note on what footshooter. publishes: We are looking for writing that is real, honest, urgent, bloody -- we hate irony, distance, '$10 words', 2nd person POV, neo-classical, 'stuffy', high-minded poetry, and 'competent', stereotypical MFA-style prose. If the poem, story, or art didn't burn like a fire shut-up in your bones and you had to write it -- take that bullshit elsewhere.
Please include a cover letter* with:
Synopsis(not for poems)
Word count
Third-person bio
Social media handles
One song that is relative to your submission and/or really means a lot to you - must be on Spotify, as that's where I'll be making the mixtape for each issue. A QR code will be included with each issue that will link to the mixtape.
You will get a response, either way, within 60 days of your submission. Simultaneous submissions encouraged - please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere. Submissions in multiple categories allowed.
Work posted on social media, such as Substack, Instagram, and Bluesky is 100% eligible for submissions. Only work that has been properly published by a journal, magazine, or press is prohibited.
NOTE: Not closely following the above submission guidelines will result in your submission being deleted without being considered.
*Only attach your submission. All cover letters and peripheral information must be in the body of the email.
Unless otherwise noted, please keep all prose submissions to 3,500 words.
By accepting publication, you grant footshooter. first serial rights to publish your work in its original numbered issue. footshooter. retains the right to print, sell, and distribute that issue for as long as it remains in print. footshooter. may use the published work, or brief excerpts from it, for promotional purposes related to the publication and its issues.
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to pay contributors or give free copies of the zine, but intend to do both ASAP.
